Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
