Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
