Eulogies Pour In for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community persist in remembering the couple.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt able to post publicly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can now put my grief into words," shared Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began spending more time together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the film, commenting that he could not remember "one day without joy".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He concluded with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different essay, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
Recently, a Los Angeles court official agreed to bar the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate issued a security hold on the cases to prohibit the public release of "all case details, notes, reports or photos" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a record citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Aftermath and Reactions
Following the killings, public personalities offered different reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making controversial claims that were broadly criticized by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his perspective to the those speaking out last week. Conversing on his show, Rogan characterized the comments as "disappointing" and suggested they demonstrated a troubling deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an aide should have intervened when the choice to comment on the passing was made.
