Jadeja Shines as Team India Hammer West Indies in Comprehensive Win

Ravindra Jadeja in action

Ravindra Jadeja has secured 334 dismissals in 86 Test matches at an bowling average of 25.07, while also making six hundreds and 27 fifties

First Test, Ahmedabad (day three of five)

West Indies 162 runs (Greaves 32; Mohammed Siraj 4-40) & 146 runs (Alick Athanaze 38; Jadeja 4-54)

India 448-5 declared (Dhruv Jurel 125, Ravindra Jadeja 104*, Rahul 100; Roston Chase 2-90)

India won by an innings victory with 140 runs to spare; take series lead 1-0

The star all-rounder excelled with both bat and ball as India overcame West Indies by a massive innings victory in Ahmedabad

Following his knock of an unbeaten 104 on Friday, Jadeja claimed four wickets for 54 runs as India completed the opening Test within two sessions on the third day

After India captain Shubman Gill decision to declare on 448 for five overnight, West Indies needed to score 287 runs simply to force their opponents bat again

That seemed unlikely following their dismissal for 162 on the opening day, and the tourists collapsed to 46 for five with Jadeja dismissing opening batsman Campbell then taking the wickets of King and Shai Hope for single-figure scores

The West Indian batsman showed some fight, scoring 38 runs and putting on a 46-run partnership with Justin Greaves, but after being caught off his own bowling by Sundar, any hope of forcing India to bat again effectively ended

The experienced all-rounder took one further wicket, having Johann Layne caught by Mohammed Siraj, and Seales was the final wicket as India began their domestic season with a win

The teams travel to Delhi for the second and concluding Test starting from Friday

Shubman Gill Replaces Rohit Sharma as India ODI Captain

Following the game, it was announced that Test captain Gill has been appointed as India's ODI captain, replacing long-standing skipper Rohit

Gill will captain the team for the first time for a three-match ODI series in Down Under beginning on October 19

Rohit's last match as skipper was the Champions Trophy final in March this year, where he led India to victory over New Zealand

The experienced player has been included in the squad and, similar to senior teammate Kohli, looks set to play in his initial international match after the Champions Trophy win

The new captain replaced Rohit as Test skipper in May, captaining the team for his debut series in the 2-2 drawn series in the UK

He led the red-ball side for his initial home series in the win in Motera, leading a squad that has lost Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ashwin to retirement after their previous home series

The 26-year-old will also be vice-captain for a three-match T20 series against the Australian team that follows the ODI portion of the tour

India ODI squad: Shubman Gill (capt) Sharma, Kohli, Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Rana, Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Jaiswal
