Jennifer Lawrence States Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer suitable to voice opinions against the Trump government, worried it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and further divisions throughout the United States.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains the Actress
In a recent interview, Lawrence reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted freely about backing right and leftwing candidates in past elections. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she remarked that a Trump victory would be “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “because I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will take all necessary steps to protect women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her rejection of Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the voting intentions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” said she of his administration. “Since he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
New Release
Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her mental health in rural Montana. Speaking at a media event for the project in the film festival, Lawrence spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by saying that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discourse of American politics at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
The actor sought to redirect frustration about the issue to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she said, in what many took to be a nod to the then-recent pledge signed by thousands of arts community members to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her performance in the new film. Even though the director has denied the story being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she did relate to elements of her film narrative after the arrival of her new baby, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern for my son,” she commented, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was already in therapy, but I began using a treatment called that medicine and I continued it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Film Challenges
Lawrence also spoke of the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was expecting and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
