Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
