The Photographer's Daily Routine in SF
The street photographer begins each morning in San Francisco with a morning brew and a stroll with her pet. She resides in North Beach, a district she cherishes for its diversity and historic appeal. The combination of colorful characters and old Victorian buildings makes it a street photographer's paradise. There's always plenty of photo opportunities, including many cute cats and dogs.
The Moment with Her Dog
"I have no doubt that feline could take him down!" O'Donnell says. "We've spotted him a few times, watching over the neighborhood from its perch."
Those distinctive ears of her chihuahua and miniature pinscher mix are shown here, stilled at the appearance of a sworn enemy. The scene highlights the standoff between the dog and cat.
Capturing the Shot
The image's tilted pavement is typical of SF's steep streets. "I had to back up a bit and crouch down to capture the image," O'Donnell explains. "Initially, I aimed to attempt to include the full dog, but I decided I preferred it with just the back of his head and unique ears. I felt it enhanced both the image and the story stronger. Often simplicity wins."
Tools and Editing
O'Donnell used her smartphone, along with Lightroom for slight adjustments. "I wish the photo brings joy to viewers," she comments. "I'm delighted that this spontaneous, spontaneous moment turned into a cute photo that shares a brief tale."
