Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular series wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
